Collection: Black Ash Replacements

Black Ash forests are more vulnerable to the impact of the Emerald Ash Borer due to the rather high percentage of Black Ash trees present. Without the living ash trees, the forest is likely to convert to a non-forested wetland. Ash deaths also create opportunity for invasives species to take over. Reforestation after an ash harvest thus aids in the overall survival of the forest.

The species listed here have been studied for suitability as black ash replacements and found to have high potential. However, choosing replacement species depends upon site conditions and management decisions. No species is a one-size-fits-all. Take into account your specific conditions when making your selection.
