Additional Information: As an early succession tree, it plays an important role in maintaining nutrients and soil in an ecosystem. Thus it is excellent for first stage reforestation. Also serves as a nurse tree to protect slower growing seedlings in a planting, such as paper birch, sugar maple, white pine and balsam fir. Has a high wildlife and pollinator benefit. White, fragrant flowers, bright red fall color and red branches give it an aesthetic appeal year-round. Edible. Black walnut tolerant.
