Each bundle contains 25 seedlings.
Scientific Name: Juglans nigra
Mature Height: 50-75 feet
Mature Spread: 50-75 feet
Hardiness: Zones 4-9
Soil: Acidic, Alkaline soil, moist, also clay, loamy, rich, sandy, well drained, wet
Light: Full sun
Growth Rate: Medium
Additional Information: Roots produce juglone, which is toxic to many plants, primarily those it does not naturally cohabitate with. Not recommended to be planted within 50 ft of sensitive tree/shrub plantings. However, the juglone provides natural weed control and the species does do better in mixes with its natural counterparts, such as oaks and hickories. Can produce nuts in 4-7 years; crucial food for wildlife in preparing for winter. Excels at providing for wildlife in many other ways; host for several caterpillars. Edible to humans. Needs plenty of space to spread its crown, but trunk often grows straight. Valuable lumber tree.
Having only recently expanded its range into northern regions, this tree is well-suited for planting with long-term goals in mind.
Estimated seedling size: 1-2 year-old seedlings, 12-18"
