Additional Information: AKA riverbank grape. Showy reddish to brown, peeling bark and large, heart-shaped leaves. Vine can measure up to 8 inches in diameter. Fragrant flowers attract pollinators, especially bees, and its edible grapes feed many wildlife species (Note of caution: remember where you plant it if you choose to harvest its bounty - poisonous look-alikes exist). Berries are sweeter after the first frost. Young tendrils and even the leaves are also edible. As its name suggests, it tolerates flooding. Can also handle occasionally dry soil. Attracts birds, insect pollinators, occasional mammals, and human foragers. Can also be used to to camouflage unsightly fencing, rock work, or other features.
This vine will need support to grow upon, so take care in choosing your site. It can be aggressive in its search for light so avoid using favored bushes and trees as support.
